The General Insurance Council in its latest data
(Provisional) has showed that non-life insurers reported 1.79% rise in gross
direct premium underwritten at Rs 26,119.41 crore for the month of March 2025
(excluding specialised companies - Agricultural Insurance Company of India and
ECGC) as compared to Rs 25,660.08 crore in the March 2024.
Of the total, general insurance companies, with market share
of 83.90%, garnered gross direct premium underwritten of Rs 21319.28 crore in
the month under review as compared to Rs 21339.64 crore in the corresponding
month of previous year, registering a de-growth of 0.10%. Among all, premium of
Navi General Insurance Co up by 273.84%, SBI General Insurance Co up by 26.19%,
Shriram General Insurance Co up by 23.28%, Future Generali India Insurance Co
up by 21.06%, Magma General Insurance Co up by 19.04% and Universal Sompo
General Insurance Co up by 14.21%. However, Raheja QBE General Insurance Co
down by 80.01%, Kshema General insurance Co down by 66.82%, HDFC Ergo General
Insurance Co down by 28.53% and Reliance General Insurance Co down by
26.96%.
Standalone health insurers, with market share of 12.49%,
garnered gross direct premium underwritten of Rs 4,800.13 crore in March 2025
as compared to Rs 4,320.44 crore in March 2024, i.e. up by 11.10%. Among all,
Aditya Birla Health Insurance Co up 26.66%, ManipalCigna Health Insurance Co up
by 22.28%, Care Health Insurance up by 15.01%, Niva Bupa health insurance
company up by 14.26%.
Specialized insurers showed de-growth of 36.21% in gross
direct premium underwritten at Rs 579.53 crore in March 2025 as compared to Rs
908.5 crore in the March 2024. Within the specialized insurers, premium of
Agricultural Insurance Company of India down by 45.21%, while premium of ECGC
up by 4.18% in the month of March this year.
